System Approach in Road Safety StudiesAndrzej SzymanekCommunications - Scientific Letters of the University of Zilina 2020, 22(4):201-210 | DOI: 10.26552/com.C.2020.4.201-210 The road safety management methodology should be based on a system approach. This means that the road transport must be formalized as a complex system (CS), and then safety can be interpreted as an emergent feature of such a system. Road accidents should be interpreted as "organizational accidents". They should be studied using concepts such as "normal accident theory" (NAT) and "highly reliable organization" (HRO). The main purpose of the article is to show the usefulness of these concepts for the road safety and risk management, especially in Polish conditions. The system approach to road safety research (and transport safety) will allow for the better safety results. |

The Northern Sea Route as a New Route for Maritime Transport between the Far East and EuropeAndrej Dávid, Andrea Galieriková, Jiøí Tengler, Vlatka StupaloCommunications - Scientific Letters of the University of Zilina 2021, 23(2):A74-A79 | DOI: 10.26552/com.C.2021.2.A74-A79 Asian countries such as China, Malaysia, India or Bangladesh belong to the largest producers of consumer goods in the world that is mainly transported by container vessels to other parts of the world. One of the busiest maritime trade route is the route between Europe and Asia. It leads through the North Pacific, Indian and the North Atlantic Oceans and their seas. There is also an alternative trade route that runs along the coast of the Russian Federation across the Arctic Ocean. On one hand the ice in this area is gradually declining due to global warming, on the other hand the duration of navigation times is being extended for several months of the year. One of the advantages of this route is the reduction of sailing times between Asian and European maritime ports. The basic goals of the paper are to focus on the current transport situation on this trade route and a new trade route that leads along the coast of Russia. |
Two Objective Public Service System Design ProblemJaroslav Janáèek, Michal Koháni, Dobroslav Grygar, René FabriciusCommunications - Scientific Letters of the University of Zilina 2021, 23(4):E68-E75 | DOI: 10.26552/com.C.2021.4.E68-E75 The public service system serves population spread over a geographical area from a given number of service centers. One of the possible approaches to the problem with two or more simultaneously applied contradicting objectives is determination of the so-called Pareto front, i.e. set of all the feasible non-dominated solutions. The Pareto front determination represents a crucial computational deal, when a large public service system is designed using an exact method. This process complexity evoked an idea to use an evolutionary metaheuristic, which can build up a set of non-dominated solution continuously in the form of an elite set. Nevertheless, the latter approach does not assure that the resulting set of solutions represents the true Pareto front of the multi-objective problem solutions. Within this paper, authors deal with both approaches to evaluate the difference between the exact and heuristic approaches. |
Wi-Fi RSS-Based Approach for Locating the Position of Indoor Wi-Fi Access PointAhmad AbadlehCommunications - Scientific Letters of the University of Zilina 2019, 21(4):69-74 | DOI: 10.26552/com.C.2019.4.69-74 This paper presents an approach to automatically detect the position of the Wi-Fi access points. It uses Wi-Fi received signal strength as well as some characteristics of the buildings such as the height of the building and the movement direction of the user to detect the position of the access points. This approach comprised of two phases: in phase one, a dynamic threshold is computed for each detected access point using the highest received signal strength. Then the threshold is used to detect a small area surrounding the access point. In phase two, it detects the position of the access point by monitoring the angle between the user and the access point, if the angle is in a certain range, then the position of the access point is detected. The experiments results show a high accuracy achieved by the proposed approach. Moreover, the results show that the proposed approach is promising. |

Optimized Control of Energy Flow in an Electric Vehicle based on GPSMatú¹ Danko, Branislav Hanko, Peter DrgoòaCommunications - Scientific Letters of the University of Zilina 2021, 23(1):C7-C14 | DOI: 10.26552/com.C.2021.1.C7-C14 Presented paper deals with energy flow control of an electric vehicle with multiple energy storages. For efficiency control of energy flow is necessary to know the traction profile of the route. The Global Positioning System is used for observation of the traction profile. The first of the proposed algorithms uses the whole traction profile of a predetermined route, so the control algorithm can determine when the use of energy of the secondary energy storage is useful. The second proposed algorithm uses the GPS to determine the traction profile from routes stored in memory. If the route is not predetermined, or found in the memory of stored routes, the last algorithm controls the energy flow, based on the current of the primary energy storage. For verification of the proposed algorithm for control of the DC/DC converter, motor with inverter was replaced by the programmable power supply and programmable electronic load. The final evaluation shows that the proposed algorithm with the predetermined route saves about 5% more energy than the basic algorithm based on the battery current. |

A Software Tool to Support the Selection of Candidates in Private Security ServicesValeria Moricova, Monika Vaclavkova, Jana Studena, Bo WangCommunications - Scientific Letters of the University of Zilina 2018, 20(2):102-109 | DOI: 10.26552/com.C.2018.2.102-109 Nowadays the protection of life, health and property of individuals is in the centre of public interest. There is not a distinction between the provision of such protection by private or public sector. The private security services play an important role in protection of persons and property. The subjects of protection are not only people and property, but also sensitive information which is relevant for the state interest or business entities. Based on research, the private security services do not make a selection of employees systematically. One of the reasons is the absence of an analysis of candidates' personal competencies which should take into account the requirements of the protected subject. The aim of the article is therefore a software solution for modelling the personal competencies of applicants for the job in private security services. |
